World's Fastest Jet
Though many military aircraft numbers are kept under wraps the piloted SR-71 Blackbird easily reached a confirmed speed of Mach 3.2 (2,094 mph). It's believed the jet could go faster, but was never tested. It made its maiden flight in 1964, and was retired by the U.S. military in 1998.
