"Starry Night", a song by Don McLean, became the No. 12 hit in the U.S. In 1971. Written as a tribute to the painter Vincent van Gogh, it describes his different paintings. and is a reference to his most famous painting- "Starry Night" (shown above).
It was painted when he was in an mental asylum and that he sold only one painting during his lifetime caused him to fall into an abyss of depression which eventually led to his suicide.
Like so many artists with sensitivity needed to create their art, how tragic to have felt so hopeless and mis-understood in spite of being so gifted !
His paintings are worth millions each today.
