Surfing Legend: George Freeth



The artwork shown here is a portrait of George Freeth surfing Bluffs Cove, California in the early 1900's. He rode a plank made of 4 boards held together with screwed cross members. The nose was sawed off to a point and the tail was square. The bathing suit he wears in this painting is black and red wool, typical of the day.

Watercolor, 12x16 inches unframed. It is painted on D'Arches 300 lb. archival cold press paper.
