John Lautner settled in Los Angeles in the late 1930s, spending much of his career there and designing some of the city’s most celebrated examples of modern architecture. Now the city is recognizing the life and influence of the architect, who died in 1994, on what would have been his 100th birthday, by declaring July 16 John Lautner Day.
A reception will be held on Saturday at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, along with an exhibition and a panel discussion on Mr. Lautner’s legacy. Other events in the following weeks are a tour of four Lautner houses (including the 1982 Schwimmer residence, pictured), organized in conjunction with the MAK Center for Art and Architecture; a fund-raiser for the John Lautner Foundation; and screenings of two documentaries.
