10-foot ice sculpture melts hearts in Times Square

NEW YORK -- It's a heartwarming display of 7,000 pounds of ice in the heart of New York City.

A heart-shaped ice sculpture was completed in Times Square on Friday, just in time for Valentine's Day weekend.

Designed by architect brothers Robert and Granger Moorhead, the blocks of ice are calibrated to absorb and magnify the lights of the illuminated chaos of Times Square.

The architects say on their Web site that the work is expected to slowly melt away in a celebration of the installation's "temporary nature."

Ice sculptors Takeo and Shintaro Okamoto helped construct the heart from masonry-scaled blocks of ice.

Pictures of the work can be viewed online at http://www.theiceheart.com
