Al Hirschfeld will be long remembered

Artist Al Hirschfeld created the most recognizable caricatures in the world. Mr. Hirschfeld died in his sleep at age 99 in 2003. Mr. Hirschfeld covered the world of theater for nearly 70 years. His work is immediately recognizable to anyone who has been alive in the last century. Mr. Hirschfeld�s pen and ink drawings usually held a hidden word "NINA" for his daughter. Mr. Hirschfeld was the subject of a 1996 documentary "The Line King: Al Hirschfeld." He also appeared as himself in several other documentaries including "Marlene: Inventing Dietrich," "The Tramp and the Dictator" and "Broadway: The Golden Age, by the Legends Who Were There." Mr. Hirschfeld was also an artistic consultant on the updated "Fantasia: 2000."
